One Flight Down!

May 6, 2010

Probably shouldn't say "flight" and "down" in the same phrase, right?
Hello from Chicago! Let me just say that it's great to have great friends at home. We're missing you already. Already a few acknowledgements are in order:

Thank you, Cindy Kuhlman for driving our scatter-brained selves to the airport. You are an AWESOME chauffeur! (and even though I suspect I misssspelled chauffeur, I'm too tired to look it up).

Thank you to my BFF Cindi Moore for making a bee-line to our house after work today to FedEx overnight Olivia's glasses to our hotel in Chicago. We're praying they'll be here in time before we have to go to the airport.

Thank you to Rhonda and Emma for house-sitting and "baby-sitting" Minqi until we get home. Thanks Clayton for loaning them out to us. :o)

Thanks for all the wonderful words of encouragement and prayers from all of our friends, family, and colleagues. It means so much to us to hear from you while we’re away.

Today’s adventures were pretty tame and our flight uneventful. Olivia complained a little that we didn’t have enough “bump, bump, down, bump, bump, up on this plane.” Imagine! Wanting turbulence! Only Olivia. She and Abigail are great travelers and since our flight was so smooth we were able to get in some writing homework. Olivia had a window seat so she wrote about the first day of our trip from the airplane:

We are gowen to China. We are flying. We are abuv the clouds. They look like flufe (fluffy) mashd (mashed) tatos (potatoes).

She also drew a picture. Look closely and you can see us sitting over the wing above the clouds that look like Grandma’s fluffy mashed potatoes.

Our next flight is tomorrow around 12:30. We fly to Hong Kong, where we'll have a three hour layover before continuing to Hangzhou where we will meet Minqi's parents.

Comments From Family and Friends:

We're having trouble loading photos from this computer in the hotel business center. Will try again later.

What is more magical: that you are on your way to China or that you posted?????? You go, Carmen! Go get Benjamin and bring him back to the loving arms of his fan club. Olivia, I love your description of the clouds. I cannot wait to read more of your China journal. Safe travels today and Godspeed as you travel to our boy.

Croy Family! We are so happy that you made it to CHicago. You still have a long way to go but we are happy that you are all safe! My boys were very excited to hear about the Fluffy White mashed potato clouds. Austin just told Mr. Palmer the description. So thanks for sharing with us!
